Vermont IAAI, Chapter 63 June 6, 2024, Killington, VT Annual Meeting Minutes
On the eve of June 6, 2024, at approximately 5:30 PM the meeting was called to order. The pledge of allegiance was recited by all members present.
A moment of silence was observed in recognition of all first responders who have fallen in the year prior.
Special recognition was given to all of those who have fought for our country on this day which marks the anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II.
All Vermont IAAI chapter members who have served their country in the Armed Forces were asked to stand and be recognized for their service.
Introduction of new members to the VT chapter; Dan Roy, Cody Roy, Tim Delaney. Reading and approval of the minutes from the last meeting.
Treasurer’s report presented by VT Chapter Treasurer, Nick Haslam. We also discussed the possibility of switching from Key Bank to a different bank that can meet our needs better. We also talked about the expense of last year’s annual meeting in Killington, which was about $8500. We talked about cost cutting measures, or the possibility of having the annual meeting at another location that was cheaper but provided the same services.
New Business/Awards: The second annual Fire Scene Preservation Award was presented to the St. Albans City Fire Chief, Matt Mulheron. Chief Mulheron was recognized for a fire scene he responded to on April 24, 2023, at 12 Forest Hill Drive. Chief Mulheron, FF’s Steve Bracey, Patrick Adams, Isaac Cioffi, and Charles Sargent were all honored for extinguishing a fire in a bedroom on the second floor of a house while preserving the fire scene and fire patterns. They clearly made the fire investigation process much easier, and the origin and cause of the fire were easily determined due to their due diligence.
Photo Contest winners were announced and given a $100 gift certificate to Home Depot. The art of reconstruction: Clark Lomardi. Electrical fire: Doug Armey. Teamwork: Jesse Dobiecki.
The first annual Fire Investigator of the Year award was presented by Jeff Campbell on behalf of the fire investigator of the year committee: The award was given to Todd Ambroz.
The Blackstone Griddle raffle was held. Nick Haslam used a computer/random number generator to pick the winner. Jeff Campbell, raffle ticket number 13, was the winner.
Remarks were made at the request of Dan Roy (Maine IAAI Chapter Vice President) to announce the Maine Chapter annual seminar on June 25, 2024, at the West Kennebunk Fire Dept. in Kennebunk, ME.
Chris Boyd indicated he will no longer be on the training committee.
Bob Patterson and Clark Lombardi were up for election as board members. They were re-elected as new board members with terms that expire in 2026.
Discussions were had by all members to have the next annual seminar at a new location/venue. Jay Peak Resort in Jay, VT was one place discussed, the other one was the Stowe Flake Resort/spa in Stowe, VT. These locations are being explored by VT IAAI chapter members at this time.
The next one-day winter seminar is tentatively scheduled for February 21st, 2025, at Williston Fire Dept. The request to find a topic the members would like to have instructed was opened up to the chapter.
The next two-day annual training (2025) seminar is tentatively scheduled for June 5/6 or 12/13 at a location to be determined in the next few months.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:30 PM.
